On the 99.5, we have a faulty N75. I ordered the updated N75, with the adapter plug. Apparently, it's not plug & play. Would seem that, what I need to do, is remove the plugs (female connectors) from the harness on the car side, then insert them into the adapter, which can then plug directly into the new N75. Two questions:

One - it's a two wire setup, and the "old" square adapter has the female ends in it. I need to remove those entirely, to install the "female" ends into the adapter. How do I release them from the old square adapter?

Two - the adapter is labeled 1 and 2 for the wires, since the plug is of course directional. How do I know which wire is which?
